Coogee Beach BBQ & hike
It was the first day after my exams had ended, and the first of my last 4 days in Sydney… and I spent it at Coogee Beach with some people from Unimates. A few of us arrived early to grab some
supplies from the nearby grocery store, and we started our BBQ on a patch of grass just off the beach. I’d say about 15 people showed up, not bad considering it was exam week. We had two grills going, one with meat doused with butter [which was just bubbling on the plate the whole time, grossss], and the other had meat with minimal butter. We had sausages and burgers and chicken and chips and soda too. It ended up being delicious and ran so smoothly, I was pretty pleased. Then afterwards, most of us went down to the beach and layed out for awhile. I read and enjoyed my last Australian beach day while most everyone else went for a swim. It was great though. As much as I wanted to get back to the beach later in the week, I knew with only 3 days left and a shabby weather forecast, it probably wasn’t going to happen. Still, I managed to erase this fact from my mind and enjoyed the day.
Around 4, some of us embarked on the coastal walk from Coogee to Bondi beach. I’d done the walk in reverse at the start of the year. This time we pretty much rushed through the walk, which didn’t make me happy but that’s what happens when you go with other people. It’s alright though, since I’ve already done the walk… it was nice to be in the company of others this time even if there was less chance for leisurely frolicking and picture-taking. We walked by a massive graveyard on the cliff, and past a few small beaches before reaching the beach just before Bondi that was covered in sculptures. We spotted a melted ice cream truck display first before realizing it was a part of the Sculptures by the Sea exhibit. All the artwork was pretty modern and somewhat abstract. Some were on the beach, and more were along the cliff on the walk from there to Bondi. It was a really cool display.
