House hunting, part 65467567
I’m moving again!!
Yes indeed, I will finally be making myself at home in GLEBE, suburb of my dreams!! I went to check out that house I’d been interested in for a few months, and there was another guy also waiting to see the room so we waited outside together. He’s from NZ and was super chill, I liked him from the start. And then we went inside and were shown a big room in the basement with 2 twin beds, a nightstand, a wardrobe, and a clothes rack. The room is twice as big as my current room and I get 2 beds to myself!! I can sleep in one and study in the other! And downstairs there are no other rooms so it’s super quiet and private. The laundry is down there [and a dryer!] and also a spare bathroom and shower. Ohhhh it’s lovely. The guy said if either of us wanted it we could tell him right then and there and he’d tell all the other people coming to see it tonight that the room was taken. I thought for sure the kiwi guy would take the room but he ended up walking away.
So I quickly thought it over before the next person came and I just couldn’t decide because of the internet situation. They don’t have wireless, just a public computer in the lounge area with high speed access. I could try to mooch off the neighbor’s wireless router but the connection would be spotty. Then one of the guys in the house noticed a hole in the floorboard leading down into the basement, where I could run a cord from the modem in the lounge down to my room where my laptop would be. SOLD!!
So in conclusion, I’m quite excited to be moving. The neighborhood is fantastic!! It’s a real neighborhood, not shady at all like Chippendale, pretty quiet, on a hill but further away from the city. The house looks cool on the outside and it’s pretty spacious on the inside. There are 5 bedrooms, a big open lounge with CABLE TV and a big kitchen, and a dining room with a tv [hellooooo homework], then the downstairs where I’ll be living. 3 of the current residents are moving out [they all seemed super awesome, so that's sad], but new ones are moving in this week. The other 2 that will still be living there are nice, I can tell I’ll feel much more at ease with them than I do around the crazy Frenchmen and chainsmokers here. It felt so much more homey as opposed to the crackden that I currently live in.
But at the same time, I am not going to get my hopes up because I haven’t moved in yet and it may end up being like it was with this place, which I was also psyched for but ended up being not so great. But come on… it’s GLEBE!! It’s a 5-minute walk to Glebe Pt Rd, a road filled with cafes and used bookshops! I’m close to the bay, about equidistant from uni [though farther from the part of campus where half my classes are]. I’m farther from the city and supermarket, though there are foodstalls and shops on Glebe Pt that may suffice.
As I was walking out of the house, the kiwi guy was walking back up the road because he had changed his mind and wanted to take the room. Aw, I felt bad because he was cool. If only there were 2 rooms available! Ah well. No hesitations! I’m glad I thought it out… I wasn’t too hasty, but I also wasn’t too indecisive. I’m just glad the kiwi guy and the other girl who came in afterwards didn’t take the room first.
