Top of the Rock & tilt-shift adventures

I made my [unofficial] annual trip to the Top of the Rock observation deck at Rockefeller Center tonight. Jono let me borrow his rented tilt shift lens, which I had no idea what to do with but had a whole lot of fun playing with! Overall I was less than thrilled with the shots I got this time, which I’ll blame on the subpar lighting and windy conditions when we were up there. But one thing’s for sure – I’ll never get tired of seeing NYC lit up at night. It’s gorgeous, and it makes me feel alive. Of course the fact that I had just completed my last day of work at my old job may have contributed to this feeling of liberation as well, but I’ll take it either way :)

Seattle, Washington

We ended our road trip in Seattle, where we were met with more hot and sunny weather. I spent the first day wandering around the waterfront and seeing the main landmarks of the city, ending up in the U-District. On our last day, I decided I was over it and mostly just layed around in the park and OD’d on coffee all day. At night, I took a bus up a hill and ended up severely lost trying to find a certain park overlooking the skyline (Kerry Park), but eventually found my way in the dark and it was well worth the hassle.

San Francisco, California

Our epic 2-week road trip began in San Francisco, a city I fell in love with instantly. Unfortunately the Golden Gate Bridge was covered in fog whenever I tried to shoot it, despite the weather being absolutely fantastic in the city. Our visit happened to coincide with the annual Bay to Breakers race, where we saw some ridiculous characters prancing around the Haight. We did the typical touristy stuff (cable car ride, Coit Tower, Fisherman’s Wharf), but took our time and enjoyed San Fran as best we could.

Long Island City in the frigid cold!

I dragged Jono to Long Island City on my birthday weekend, where we walked around 5 Pointz and then killed time before it got dark and we could begin our night shooting at Gantry State Park. It was definitely way too cold – FREEZING, in fact! So needless to say, we didn’t last long.

Sunset at Gantry State Park

I made the trek to Gantry State park in Long Island City, Queens, with the intent of doing some night shots. Unfortunately it was way too cold and windy so I didn’t make it long past sunset. I was lucky enough to witness some gorgeous clouds though! HDR post-processing helped to restore the shots to what I actually saw.
