Engagement Photography | Shagun & Gaurav | Central Park, NYC

Shagun and Gaurav have the sort of love story that could be made into a movie. They met on a train in India when they were teenagers, kept in touch all this time and remained friends. Shagun moved to the US after finishing school, Gaurav followed suit a few years ago, and they began dating last November. Without the barrier of distance, these two finally got to be together, and within a month they were engaged. They’re getting married later this year in India, but I had the privilege of doing their engagement shoot here in NYC :) Aren’t they gorgeous?

Portrait Photography | ENCORE Senior Center | NYC

This batch of photos is the last in a series I did for a prominent NYC nonprofit organization. I visited soup kitchens and a senior center and photographed clients utlilizing services there. My photos are going to be published in the organization’s annual report, which I am eagerly waiting to see! I’ll be sure to post photos of the report once I have it in my hands :)

As I mentioned before, I really enjoyed these assignments because they were different from my usual wedding and event photography, yet still allowed me to practice photojournalism and capture the essence of people. I’d love to do more of this sort of work! This particular shoot at the ENCORE senior center was especially enjoyable because all the folks were so nice and funny. Lots of jokesters at the senior center, that’s for sure!

Don’t worry, we’ll be back to our regular scheduled programming soon! I know I’ve been posting a seemingly random array of photos lately, but the month of June is stock full of weddings, events, and engagement shoots for me. I’m excited to officially kick off this wedding season!

Portrait Photography | Shannon soaks up spring in Boston

I come up to Boston twice a year to visit my sister while she’s at school. With every visit, I am assured of at least three things:
- we will drink a lot of coffee
- we will do a lot of walking
- I will take a lot of pictures (of her)

This visit was no exception. We visited the same 2 cafes every day for our daily doses of caffeine. We walked so much that my feet blistered with both pairs of shoes I wore. And I took hundreds of photos of Shannon. I’d say it was a successful trip!

This one’s pretty funny – as I was instructing her to bend over and smell the flowers, someone drove by and yelled out ‘YEAH!’. Guess that’s what happens when you’re, uh, well endowed on the back side?

I hate shooting people in the middle of the day when it’s so bright out – I actually get asked about this a lot, and it seems that a lot of people assume that the middle of a bright, sunny day is ideal for photoshoots. NOT TRUE! As you can see here, the harsh sunlight cast some weird shadows on Shannon’s skin. It’s just not very flattering. But I couldn’t *not* capture Shan with the gorgeous fences and flowers along Comm Ave :) Sometimes you gotta just make do with what you’ve got!

This is me making a cameo here :) Shannon made me dress up with her and trek down to the harbor on a windy evening for a shoot. As you can see, but I went barefoot. Mostly because I didn’t have any shoes that went particularly well with the dress, but also because my feet were destroyed by the shoes I DID have with me in Boston. And, well, I hate shoes anyway. They hate me, too. At least we’re on the same page!

We didn’t have much time before the sun went down, but I managed to squeeze in a short series of photos of her by herself.

Portrait Photography | Shannon | Boston, MA

Shannon is one of my favorite subjects to photograph. She may think otherwise, but I’m convinced she looks good in every shot. How can she not when she spends at least 2 hours carefully crafting her look (from clothes to accessories to makeup) every single day? :)

I usually end up forcing her to pose and she’ll moan and groan about it, but afterwards she’s got a slew of Facebook profile-worthy photos at her disposal and everyone’s happy. My recent trip to visit her in Boston was no exception, as I staged a few shoots in the Public Garden and Esplanade. There was still a bit of fall color left, which was a nice touch in the background.
