Wedding Photography | Naeema & Ron | Flushing, NY

I kicked off a very busy month of June with Naeema and Ron’s wedding. They got married at the Flushing Town Hall (in Queens, NYC) on a ridiculously hot and humid day, but the weather didn’t spoil anyone’s spirits. The wedding party walked down the aisle to a Method Man & Mary J. Blige song, a great change of pace from the traditional wedding processional and indicative of the fun-loving, laidback nature of the bride & groom and their loved ones.

The day began at the Marco Hotel, where Naeema and her bridal party got ready:

Here he broke out some freestyling action after I instructed them to strike a non-serious pose. It was pretty amazing, and I wish I had caught it on video but alas.

Naeema and Ron had a Caribbean theme going on at their wedding (she’s Puerto Rican and he’s Haitian), so the tables were adorned with shells and tropical-looking flowers.

Wedding Photography | Alison & David – Part 2 | Raphael Vineyard, Long Island

I already posted photos from when I assisted Joe Sanfilippo at Alison & David’s wedding in this blog post, but I’ve got loads more photos from the second part of the day, i.e. cocktail hour and reception. Raphael Vineyard on Long Island is a really gorgeous venue, absolutely perfect for weddings. I definitely enjoyed photographing it!

St. John’s Bread and Life

Back in March, I had the pleasure of taking photos at St. John’s Bread and Life, a soup kitchen and pantry in Brooklyn. I really like these sorts of photo jobs because they give me a chance to step outside the realm of wedding/event photography and put my photojournalistic tendencies to good use in a more low-key environment. Here are some of the more colorful characters I encountered:

Marla Cielo trunk show

I kicked off the month of May at the Marla Cielo trunk show. I got a sneak peek of some of the products when I photographed them last month, but to see the whole collection on display in person was pretty awesome. Andrea Tobin is the mastermind behind the brand, creating handbags out of canvas that she paints with acrylic. I don’t know the first thing about fashion or design, but I do know that she’s got something really unique here. And that I’d very much like to adorn my apartment with her paintings (and, ok, perhaps my shoulder with her bags).

The event itself was nothing short of downright impressive. I, along with the others employed for the evening, got to dress in a Marla Cielo t-shirt. Whisk & Ladle worked the bar, Studio Feast served up some Korean tacos, and all the handbags, coin purses, and other accessories were beautifully displayed around the apartment while everyone mingled and browsed the collection. And best of all, I got to spend this glorious spring day hanging out on a patio in Manhattan, taking pictures. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Wedding Photography | Alison & David – Part 1 | Raphael Vineyard, Long Island

I’m always envious of wedding photographers in states like Texas or California who have the advantage of working in warmer climates year-round. Most northeasterners aren’t so keen on cold winter weddings!

But come spring, wedding season is in full swing here. I got my first taste in 2010 assisting Joe Sanfilippo at a wedding at Raphael Vineyard in Peconic, NY on 4/17. It was actually my first real time on Long Island, and we were wayyyyyy out there almost at the end of it. But gosh, the vineyards are so pretty! Raphael even has a basement full of wine barrels, which pretty much makes for the most fantastic newlywed photoshoot. Alison and David were totally game for it.

Here are photos from the first part of the day; stay tuned for part 2!
