Wedding Photography | Ebony & Shawn | Grand Cascades Resort, Northern New Jersey

I had the privilege of photo-documenting Ebony and Shawn’s vow renewal ceremony at the gorgeous Grand Cascades Resort in Hamburg, NJ. I was super excited about the day, except for one thing: I had to drive through Manhattan to get there. Living in NYC, I don’t have much need for a car so I rarely drive these days. And that’s fine with me because a). I don’t like driving, and b). I prefer greener methods of transport, i.e. train or bike. The mere thought of driving through the city shakes me! But there was no way around it today, so I bit the bullet and dove right in. And I dare say it was kind of fun! :)

Even more fun was getting to photograph this beautiful event. Ebony and Shawn have a colorful and tight-knit family, and they renewed their vows in front of all their loved ones. The day was as much about celebrating their family as it was about renewing their marriage. There was such an outpouring of love during the toasts, it was so touching to witness.

Congrats to the happy couple and their fabulous family!

Literally 2 seconds after I took this shot ^^, it started to downpour. How’s that for timing?

Right after the ceremony, I found all the kids hanging out in the game room while the adults mingled in the lobby. Too cute!

All of the table decorations came from Ebony’s home collection. So pretty!

Wedding Photography | Naeema & Ron | Flushing, NY

I kicked off a very busy month of June with Naeema and Ron’s wedding. They got married at the Flushing Town Hall (in Queens, NYC) on a ridiculously hot and humid day, but the weather didn’t spoil anyone’s spirits. The wedding party walked down the aisle to a Method Man & Mary J. Blige song, a great change of pace from the traditional wedding processional and indicative of the fun-loving, laidback nature of the bride & groom and their loved ones.

The day began at the Marco Hotel, where Naeema and her bridal party got ready:

Ron and his groomsmen were so much fun to photograph!<br />

Here he broke out some freestyling action after I instructed them to strike a non-serious pose. It was pretty amazing, and I wish I had caught it on video but alas.

Naeema and Ron had a Caribbean theme going on at their wedding (she’s Puerto Rican and he’s Haitian), so the tables were adorned with shells and tropical-looking flowers.

Wedding Photography | Sneak Peek: Naeema & Ron | Flushing, NY

On Saturday, I got to photograph Naeema and Ron’s wedding at the Flushing Town Hall. The wedding party walked danced down the aisle to Method Man & Mary J. Blige’s “You’re All I Need To Get By”, and it was nothing short of awesome :) More to come soon!

Beautiful spring weekend spent outdoors

Wanna know how a photographer spends her weekends when she’s not out shooting a wedding, event, or portrait session? Taking pictures, of course! :) I just can’t help it! I’ve always been sort of obsessed with documenting my life. And I’m always out and about doing things and exploring NYC, so of course I’ve got my camera with me almost all the time.

This past weekend, we were graced with the most incredible weather – sunshine & 70′s – does it get any better? When the weather is good, I make an effort to be outdoors as much as possible. On Saturday, Lauren and I wandered around the East Village and got a wee bit distracted by all the gorgeous fencing on St. Marks Place. I get so entranced by all the swirls and texture. Isn’t it just gorgeous?

Then on Sunday, I got on my bike and rode down to Prospect Park, where I just layed on a hill with the sun shining on me, dozing off to the occasional shouts from the six baseball games taking place all around me. No pictures, just pure enjoyment and relaxation :) Later, I ended up on 5th Ave in Park Slope where the annual 5th Ave Street Fair was happening. Unlike most NYC street fairs that all have the same repetitive vendors, this one had much more variation to it. So I wandered the street with my big lens, shooting candid shots of strangers and ogling all the kittens that were up for adoption at one booth. I am officially on the hunt for a kitty to call my own!… but it’s not a decision to be taken lightly, so I did not give in to temptation and adopt one on the spot there. Soon enough!

But man, I love NYC. I say it all the time, yet somehow it’s not enough.

Wedding Photography | Alison & David – Part 1 | Raphael Vineyard, Long Island

I’m always envious of wedding photographers in states like Texas or California who have the advantage of working in warmer climates year-round. Most northeasterners aren’t so keen on cold winter weddings!

But come spring, wedding season is in full swing here. I got my first taste in 2010 assisting Joe Sanfilippo at a wedding at Raphael Vineyard in Peconic, NY on 4/17. It was actually my first real time on Long Island, and we were wayyyyyy out there almost at the end of it. But gosh, the vineyards are so pretty! Raphael even has a basement full of wine barrels, which pretty much makes for the most fantastic newlywed photoshoot. Alison and David were totally game for it.

Here are photos from the first part of the day; stay tuned for part 2!
