Wedding Photography | Tiffany & NiiOkai | Brooklyn/Queens, NYC

Tiffany and NiiOkai celebrated their wedding day across two NYC boroughs. It began at the LaGuardia Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Queens, where Tiffany and her bridal party got ready. The ceremony was held at a church in Brooklyn, and was followed with some portraits at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. I’ve been to a good number of museums in NYC, but somehow I’d never even heard of this one. Turns out it’s a fantastic spot for a photoshoot! I only wish we’d had more time to roam around the museum.

Afterwards I headed back to Queens with the wedding party on a party bus, which ended up breaking down on the highway back – whoops! Thankfully a replacement bus was sent right away to pick us all up, so we didn’t miss much of the reception. Talk about luck!

Congrats to Tiffany and NiiOkai!

Engagement Photography | Shagun & Gaurav | Central Park, NYC

Shagun and Gaurav have the sort of love story that could be made into a movie. They met on a train in India when they were teenagers, kept in touch all this time and remained friends. Shagun moved to the US after finishing school, Gaurav followed suit a few years ago, and they began dating last November. Without the barrier of distance, these two finally got to be together, and within a month they were engaged. They’re getting married later this year in India, but I had the privilege of doing their engagement shoot here in NYC :) Aren’t they gorgeous?

Pet Portraits | My new kitty!

If you know me at all, you know that I absolutely love cats. LOVE. Not quite to the point of being on the road to crazy cat ladydom, but enough that I will yell out “kitty!” whenever I see one and likely try to pet it and get it to purr. That’s probably not something to go telling the world on your blog, but cats make me happy. So does photography. And so does taking pictures of cats.

I’ve actually never had a cat of my own, but this year I decided I was finally ready to adopt one. I wasn’t going to settle for anything less than my kitty soulmate, though! I started looking at shelters and thinking of names (for awhile I was set on naming her Chubby Checkers, though I can’t remember why exactly…). The plan was to hopefully adopt one this summer, in July or August after a jam-packed month of June. But hey, you can’t always plan when you’ll find your (kitty) soulmate! Thanks to the wonders of Facebook, I learned that a friend of a friend had rescued a little tabby cat on the streets of Newark, and that she was so sweet and cute and desperately needed a home. There literally was no decision-making process, I just automatically made up my mind that I had to see her. I told myself that I’d think about it afterwards and if I wanted to take her, I’d wait a week or two until the dust started to settle in my hectic life. I also picked out a name for her before even meeting her: Chib Jr, after my family’s gorgeous tabby cat back home who’s my favorite cat of all-time.

Well, guess what happened? I went, I saw her, and I had to have her that night. We lugged her back to NYC in a cardboard box that she almost busted through at least 20 times on the train. She spent a week camping out in my bedroom while we kept her separate from my roommate’s cat and I tried to cram in her vet appointments to make sure she was healthy. She nearly escaped when she climbed out my window one day through a ripped screen while we were at work – thank god our neighbor saw her!

But oh, she’s so adorable! She purrs, she plays, she cuddles, she likes to lick my arms/hands and nibble on my hair. She often wakes me up at 5am to play (as if dragging a toy into bed at that hour is really going to get me up!). She’s the most easygoing, chill kitty I’ve ever seen. Yeah, she’s pretty much my kitty soulmate :) … and definitely worth the wait I’d say!

And with that, I present: Chib Jr!

Wedding Photography | Ebony & Shawn | Grand Cascades Resort, Northern New Jersey

I had the privilege of photo-documenting Ebony and Shawn’s vow renewal ceremony at the gorgeous Grand Cascades Resort in Hamburg, NJ. I was super excited about the day, except for one thing: I had to drive through Manhattan to get there. Living in NYC, I don’t have much need for a car so I rarely drive these days. And that’s fine with me because a). I don’t like driving, and b). I prefer greener methods of transport, i.e. train or bike. The mere thought of driving through the city shakes me! But there was no way around it today, so I bit the bullet and dove right in. And I dare say it was kind of fun! :)

Even more fun was getting to photograph this beautiful event. Ebony and Shawn have a colorful and tight-knit family, and they renewed their vows in front of all their loved ones. The day was as much about celebrating their family as it was about renewing their marriage. There was such an outpouring of love during the toasts, it was so touching to witness.

Congrats to the happy couple and their fabulous family!

Literally 2 seconds after I took this shot ^^, it started to downpour. How’s that for timing?

Right after the ceremony, I found all the kids hanging out in the game room while the adults mingled in the lobby. Too cute!

All of the table decorations came from Ebony’s home collection. So pretty!

Wedding Photography | Naeema & Ron | Flushing, NY

I kicked off a very busy month of June with Naeema and Ron’s wedding. They got married at the Flushing Town Hall (in Queens, NYC) on a ridiculously hot and humid day, but the weather didn’t spoil anyone’s spirits. The wedding party walked down the aisle to a Method Man & Mary J. Blige song, a great change of pace from the traditional wedding processional and indicative of the fun-loving, laidback nature of the bride & groom and their loved ones.

The day began at the Marco Hotel, where Naeema and her bridal party got ready:

Ron and his groomsmen were so much fun to photograph!<br />

Here he broke out some freestyling action after I instructed them to strike a non-serious pose. It was pretty amazing, and I wish I had caught it on video but alas.

Naeema and Ron had a Caribbean theme going on at their wedding (she’s Puerto Rican and he’s Haitian), so the tables were adorned with shells and tropical-looking flowers.
