Seattle, Washington

We ended our road trip in Seattle, where we were met with more hot and sunny weather. I spent the first day wandering around the waterfront and seeing the main landmarks of the city, ending up in the U-District. On our last day, I decided I was over it and mostly just layed around in the park and OD’d on coffee all day. At night, I took a bus up a hill and ended up severely lost trying to find a certain park overlooking the skyline (Kerry Park), but eventually found my way in the dark and it was well worth the hassle.

San Francisco, California

Our epic 2-week road trip began in San Francisco, a city I fell in love with instantly. Unfortunately the Golden Gate Bridge was covered in fog whenever I tried to shoot it, despite the weather being absolutely fantastic in the city. Our visit happened to coincide with the annual Bay to Breakers race, where we saw some ridiculous characters prancing around the Haight. We did the typical touristy stuff (cable car ride, Coit Tower, Fisherman’s Wharf), but took our time and enjoyed San Fran as best we could.

Late afternoon at the Williamsburg Bridge

We took a late-afternoon stroll across the Williamsburg Bridge and made it to the Manhattan side just in time to catch the beautiful lighting before sunset.

DC Museums & Stations

Not only do the museums in DC house some stunning artwork for viewing, but they also provide for an aesthetically pleasing experience both inside and out (architecturally-speaking). Such beautiful buildings! In particular, we visited (or admired while passing by) the NGA, Smithsonian, Hirshhorn, and Air & Space Museums. Even the metro stations are ornate and gorgeous!

DC by night

Fal and I were most excited to traipse around DC at night and take some long exposure shots for HDRs. It was a blast, even though I’m not as content with the photos as I’d hoped to be. The contrast between the brightly-lit buildings and the surrounding area of darkness was huge, so in retrospect I probably should have used several more exposures to create these HDRs and adequately capture the exposure range… but alas. Guess I’ll have to go back!
