2013 Apr 21: UPDATE: Website is back! Business is still on hiatus!

Well hello there! We’re about halfway through the hiatus of Lindsay Taryn Photography, so I wanted to update you all on things:

First –

You may have noticed that this website was down for about two weeks in April. I was in the Thai islands without wifi and my home computer during this time so I couldn’t do anything about it until I returned to civilization (i.e. Bangkok). Turns out, my webhost somehow LOST all of my website content in their databases during a migration. Thankfully I have this website auto-backed up weekly, so they were able to restore most of it (minus the portfolio – I have that backed up on my home computer, so that will have to remain missing until I return home in July. I also had several blog posts drafted up, to be posted in the coming months while I’m away – but unfortunately those are lost forever, so there won’t be any wedding-related posts until I’m back home.)

Lesson learned (or reinforced): BACK EVERYTHING UP. You just never know what’ll happen!

Second –

I never formally announced my hiatus, except for a note on the contact page, but here it is: I am out of the country from February through June of this year, and thus unable to take on any photography jobs until July. I’m currently midway through a 5-month epic backpacking trip through Asia and already it’s been an incredible experience. I’m so happy on the road.

There will definitely be some life changes happening once I get back to NYC – perhaps some that affect this business. I’m taking this time to explore new places AND myself. I’m not sure what’s next for me, but I promise I will keep you updated! One thing’s certain: I won’t stop taking pictures!

(Though my camera is currently in the shop for repairs, so I guess that’s the one thing that would stop me. I feel so lost without it!)

You can follow along with my journey through Asia via Frugal Frolicker – my new travel blog.

Here I am in the 3 countries I’ve visited so far: Nepal, India, and Thailand –

2013 Jan 28: Brooklyn Photography | Williamsburg, Brooklyn | Melissa

Last summer, fellow photographer-friend Melissa of MLKL Photography and I had our second annual photoshoot around our neighborhood of Williamsburg. Melissa always manages to look effortlessly cute – I mean really, she makes it so easy to get some great photos. Check her out!

2013 Jan 16: Brooklyn Photography | Williamsburg | Sneak Peek: Melissa

Last summer, fellow photographer-friend Melissa of MLKL Photography and I had our second annual photoshoot. Essentially, that means we try to look cute and take turns shooting each other around our neighborhood of Williamsburg. It’s actually a lot of fun!

Here’s one of my favorite of Melissa. More to come soon!

2013 Jan 6: Brooklyn Wedding Photography | NYC Elopement | Sarah & Mitch

Sarah and Mitch came all the way from Australia last fall to elope in New York City. This fact alone was enough to make me love them, but they also happen to be super sweet. Also, they may even love NYC more than I do! (which says a lot, mind you)

From their City Hall elopement to Times Square portraits, here are the highlights from Sarah and Mitch’s wedding day:

2012 Nov 18: Brooklyn Wedding Photography | Dumbo, Brooklyn | Nicole & Wil

I met up with Nicole and Will this past summer for a pre-wedding shoot, spanning both sides of the Brooklyn Bridge. I am SO EXCITED to share these images with the world because I think they may be my best set to-date.

Then I started thinking about WHY this was some of my best work and realized it had little to do with me and much to do with Nicole and Will. They helped make these images so great by:

  • Preparing for the shoot beforehand. Nicole and I were in contact throughout the year, exchanging ideas and planning for the shoot. She took time to gather inspiration shots and clearly communicate what was important to her and what she wanted out of the shoot, which in turn helped ME prepare a plan for how to make that happen.
  • Being involved and present in the shoot. Nicole and Will had their own ideas for poses and locations which, when combined with my ideas, made for some really great collaboration. They were also super enthusiastic and comfortable in front of the camera, which I know is not easy for most people (myself included!) – but it really does help.
  • Bringing props and an assistant. Nicole brought some items along to the shoot to add variety to the photos – e.g. balloons, a Mr & Mrs sign, and a bolero to wear over her dress. And – bonus! – she had her mom accompany us to play the roles of stylist and prop carrier in-between shots.

So thank you, Nicole and Will, for all your preparation and enthusiasm for this shoot. I’m thrilled with the images we created! :)

Then later in the week, I photographed their wedding ceremony at Scottadito Osteria Toscana, in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I love that they put so much thought into every detail – the restaurant looked incredible. It was such a pleasure to be a part of such an intimate ceremony.
